Winged Sprint Car added to the USAC Silver Crown Series entry for the new year
Shullsburg, Wisconsin – It’s been a long wait for David Byrne and the Byrne Racing Team in regards to the start of the 2014 racing season. The wait is almost over for the 27-year-old who will make his first USAC Traxxas Silver Crown Series start on Saturday, May 17th at the immaculate 0.686 mile progressively banked paved oval of Lucas Oil Raceway, located west of Indianapolis in Clermont, Indiana.
The USAC Hall of Fame Classic is round two of the 2014 USAC Silver Crown Series season and will feature the 12 new inductions into USAC’s Hall of Fame. With the Must See Xtreme Sprint Series changing the May 9th LOR race to Aug 3rd; Byrne’s new 2014 opener will be in the Silver Crown Car. Followed, tentatively, by his Winged Sprint Car debut on Wednesday, May 21st for the Must See Racing 60 at Anderson Speedway (IN).
“I’m really looking forward to getting some laps in the Sprint Car, but scheduling will put me in the Silver Crown Car first.” Explained the Shullsburg, Wisconsin driver. “I’m looking forward to getting back on the Track. We finished third in the last race we ran at LOR and it would be great to improve on that.” He added.
Plans for the 2014 racing season call for the Byrne Racing Team to race in the Traxxas USAC Silver Crown Series as well as several races with the Winged Sprint Car with the Must See Xtreme Sprint Car Series as well as the Auto Value Super Sprints Series. In addition, Byrne will also race in the “King of the Wing” Series promoted by Davey Hamilton which features events in the Midwest over the fourth of July weekend and three races in California about Thanksgiving time.
“The weather has not only screwed up our racing plans, it has really screwed up our spring work schedule, and that drives the ship.” Explained Byrne Racing Car Owner and Father, Steve Byrne. “We are going to have to hit the track without a lot of practice, but we’ll be fine.”
Throughout most of his career, David Byrne has been known primarily as a USAC National Midget Series competitor as well as more recently, a contender in the premier within the United States Auto Club, the Silver Crown Series. As the 2014 season approaches and while Byrne will continue making appearances in the Silver Crown car, he’ll also add another machine to his arsenal; a Winged Sprint Car.
“David and Chuy (Byrne Racing Car Chief, James Sandberg) are really pumped up for the 2014 Season. The two have meshed and really work good together and it has been translating to our performance on the track.” Added the elder Byrne. “We will build on our successes in the Silver Crown Car and then jump into our new adventure with the Winged Sprint Car. The challenge will be to pick races that fit David’s racing style. Business commitments will limit our number of races, but we should be able to make some noise wherever we go.” He stated.
Despite running only half of the 2013 schedule, Byrne still managed a 15th place finish in the USAC Silver Crown Series points standings with one top five finish, which was a third at Lucas Oil Raceway (IN) on July 27th during Brickyard Speedweeks. He also recorded two top 10 finishes as well including a seventh place showing at Pikes Peak International Raceway (CO). In his USAC Midget, he finished just outside of the top 10 in 11th in the final standings.
For the 2014 racing season, both of Byrne’s cars, his #40 USAC Silver Crown Series entry and his #40 Winged Sprint Car machine will carry sponsorship support and decals from the family owned business, Bytec Resource Management as well as Truck Country, J&D Performance Incorporated, Steele Performance Parts, Simpson Racing Products and M.P.H. Promotions.
