Rich Vogler Classic Winner, David Byrne Ready For King Of The Wings in California
Shullsburg, Wisconsin – It’s already been a career season for David Byrne in the USAC Traxxas Silver Crown Series after winning his first ever race in the series in the most prestigious race on the schedule; the Rich Vogler Classic. He’s also had a good year with the Wing atop of his Sprint car competing in the Must See Xtreme Sprint Car Series and Auto Value Super Sprint Series. Competitive each and every time he’s entered an event, the Shullsburg, Wisconsin driver is hoping to end the 2014 racing season on an even higher note with a trip to California.
Davey Hamilton’s King of the Wing Series will conclude its’ inaugural season with three races in three days in the Golden State beginning on Friday, November 21st at the fast 1/3 (0.333) mile semi-banked paved oval of Madera Speedway located northwest of Fresno in Madera, CA. From there, it’s on to the immaculate Irwindale Raceway & Events Center, a 1/2 (0.500) mile progressively banked paved oval northeast of Los Angeles in Irwindale, CA on Saturday, November 22nd. The series concludes on Sunday, November 23rd at the 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Kern County Raceway in Bakersfield, CA.
“I have really enjoyed our Season. The Win in the Silver Crown race in Indy was really Special. Being the 100th different winner in a Historic Series such as the USAC Silver Crown Series and to think I’m on a list of other winners such as A.J. Foyt and Mario Andretti is pretty surreal.” The 28-year-old Steve Byrne offered as he and his Byrne Racing Team prepare for the lengthy trip out west. “We took all season to figure out set-ups and nuances of the Winged Pavement Sprint car but we nailed it at Rockford in the last race. After what we did there, I can’t wait for California,” he added.
In the Must See Xtreme Sprint Car Series race at the fast 0.292 mile high-banked paved oval of Rockford Speedway (IL), Byrne was fast throughout the weekend and just missed his first ever trip to victory lane in a Winged Sprint Car with a solid second place finish on September 28th. “We had a dominating performance. With three to go a lapped car broke right in front of us and we had to dive through the infield to avoid him. Lost the lead in the process. We still finished second and didn’t really tear anything up,” Byrne explained.
His father and Car Owner, Steve Byrne added; “It’s been a very special season. David’s win at Indy in a last corner, last lap pass was indescribable. Our Team worked hard and never gave up. We knew the win was right around the corner,” he stated. “David and Chuy (Car Chief, James Sandberg) have really gelled this year and we couldn’t do it without the work and expertise of Chuy. Byrne Racing is very lucky to have a Car Chief of his caliber. The Team came a long way with the Winged Sprint Car. It took us awhile to put it all together but David’s Rockford Race proved we should have a great run with the King of Wings Series,” he ended.
For the King of the Wing Series in California, his familiar #40 Winged Sprint Car machine will carry sponsorship support and decals from the family owned business, Bytec Resource Management as well as Truck Country, J&D Performance Incorporated, Steele Performance Parts, Simpson Racing Products and M.P.H. Promotions.
