Gateway Motorsports Park Up Next For David Byrne In The USAC Traxxas Silver Crown Series
Shullsburg, Wisconsin – Three races into the 2014 racing season, David Byrne is letting the open-wheeled racing world know that he means business. So far in one USAC Traxxas Silver Crown Series start and two appearances in Winged Sprint Cars competition, the Shullsburg, Wisconsin driver hasn’t finished worse than seventh including a podium finish in his lone USAC Silver Crown Series start, the USAC Hall of Fame Classic at Lucas Oil Raceway back on May 17th.
“We’ve had a great start to our year. Chuy (James Sandberg our Car Chief) has had the cars prepped and on the mark right out of the trailer.”Stated the 28-year-old. “We couldn’t quite catch the Swanson Boys in Indianapolis in our #40 Truck Country Silver Crown Car, but we sure had a rocket.” He added.
The next race for Byrne and the Byrne Racing Team is back in the USAC Silver Crown Series entry at the Gateway Motorsports Park, located just east of St. Louis, Missouri and across the Mississippi River in Madison, Illinois on Saturday, June 14th. The Gateway 100 for the series serves as a prelim to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race later that evening. “All in all we are very excited about our upcoming races, especially Gateway. I let one get away there last year and I’m looking for redemption this time.” He added.
In his first two Winged Sprint Car events, the first race ever in one came at the fast 1/4 (0.250) mile high-banked paved oval of Anderson Speedway (IN) for the Must See Racing 60 on a special Wednesday, May 21st. Byrne’s 28th birthday. “At Anderson we were right there. Had a minor throttle issue which made things a little uncomfortable in the race but seventh isn’t bad against the Must See Regulars.” He continued.
In his second race with the Winged Sprinter, this time with the Auto Value / Bumper to Bumper Super Sprint Series, the ultra fast 3/8s (0.375) mile high-banked paved oval of Kalamazoo Speedway (MI) was the destination. “The car was right on. We had the wing slide forward at the beginning of the race and we fell back to about 10th. Under caution I noticed what happened, put it back and raced back up to fifth and just inches from the fourth place car.” Byrne explained.
Plans for the rest of the 2014 season call for the Byrne Racing Team to race in the USAC Silver Crown Series as well as several races with the Winged Sprint Car in the Must See Xtreme Sprint Car Series and the Auto Value Super Sprints Series.
