An Impressive Finish

August 21, 2009

Shullsburg WI – The Bytec Inc./ Tricor Insurance/Truck Country/ number 20 has only run 4 races up until last Saturday’s Illinois State Championship at Grundy County Raceway in Morris IL. The car having Mechanical woes in all 4. We turned the corner Saturday night.

David did extremely well at Grundy. Not the finish we wanted but David made some moves on the track that were really impressive.

25 USAC Regional and UMARA National Midgets were on hand for The Illinois State Championship. David was 3rd fastest in qualifying. He started 4th and won the fast dash for cash. David started 7th in his heat race and finished 2nd.

In the feature, he started 4th. The car ahead of him [“Pretty Boy”] didn’t start well so David fell back to 8th, passed his way back up to 3rd and was contending for the lead with 2 other cars when the 4th place car tried to pass on the outside. When he tried, the 5th place car tapped David in the rear, got him loose, and both cars got passed him. With only a hand full of laps left he was unable to catch them and he had to settle for a 5th place finish.

David made some spectacular passes through out the race, 2 of which were on “Pretty Boy”. If you recall “Pretty Boy” Dakota Armstrong, spun David for the transfer spot in a last chance race in a USAC National Race in Rockford IL last year. He also just signed to a Development deal with Roger Penske which meant passing him was all the sweeter. These were “Professional” moves. Never touched a wheel!! It was really cool to watch.

The Byrne Racing Team has 3 more races in the Mid-West; Grundy County Speedway Sept 5th, the USAC National Race in Columbus OH Sept 19th and Berlin Raceway in Marne MI Sept 26. We still need to decide whether or not to do a trip out west for 3 races, Las Vegas NV Oct 31, Phoenix AR Nov 12 and Irwindale CA. Nov 26. If we do well in the Mid-West, look for us to make the trip out West.

Wish us luck!!
