2010 Season Comes to a Close
Turkey Night Grand Prix, November 25, 2010
It’s been a couple of years since Byrne Racing has made the trip to Turkey Night in California. We unloaded slow but Chuy and David worked hard both days, we had a practice day on the 24th, and got the car respectable for qualifing. David did a great job in qualifying. He qualified 16th out of the 37 cars. His qualifying time was 2 tenths faster than his practice times. Only 14 cars were locked in to the feature by time, so David had to run one of the two qualifying races which he finished second to Josh Wise. David had some great moves in the qualifying race, racing Kevin Swindell. David won the battle in turn 4 of the final lap to finish 2nd. The Feature Race started OK but 39 laps in, a brake rotor broke ending David’s run. He finished 26th. Not where we wanted to finish but we were fast at the end and that should spring board us into 2011.
Las Vegas, October 30, 2010
The end of the season wasn’t one of our best. We made the trip to Vegas for the USAC Western States race. It was very disappointing from many fronts. First, there were only 9 cars, 5 of which were from the Midwest. Second, the Fontana engine failed us again so we had to scramble to get the Esslinger car prepared. We were going to run the Fontana at Vegas and the Esslinger at Irwindale of which the Esslinger was prepared for. We just couldn’t find the proper set-up. David qualified 7th and finished 6th. Enough said now it’s off to Irwindale California for the Turkey Night Grand Prix.
